Longer than i remember

 

When I look at the moon and rap a tune

How come, I wonder, I see you for you

You're not a star, not a thing too far

But something I've kept along for long
Decades old or a nostalgic song
I've known for you for longer
Longer than I remember.

As I slip into the covers of my night
I dream of your beautiful sight
We visit places in my dream
You'd rather pull me from my scream
And I'm sound asleep on your lap
You're humming a tune I've known
for longer
Longer than I remember.

Suddenly a name comes on my tongue
So mystical like a wood untouched
And on I sing your songs
As the melody feels like a forgotten lore
I look up in my diaries, I flip through my history
You've been here, I know, your smell reminds me
I've known you for longer
Longer than I remember.

And at the end of a red dusk
As I sit and stare at the orange sky
All my hues mixed with your lullabies
I smile to myself thinking
how come we've met like this in time
You're in another country
And I'm day dreaming by myself
But we met and that matters
For I know I've know you
For longer than I remember.
